The experimental techniques in the field of biotechnology are characterized by multiple steps,strong continuity,and lengthy time requirements,with technological methods constantly evolving.However,the current experimental teaching models still have drawbacks such as not meeting employment needs,failing to tailor teaching to individual students,and not keeping pace with the times.This study applied the"breakthrough"teaching model to the laboratory courses of the biotechnology major,adopting a combination of"required(syllabus)+elective(breakthrough)"experimental models.The results showed that most students could ultimately meet the requirements to pass the levels,and they have a high evaluation of the"breakthrough"open experimental teaching model.They believed that it could stimulate enthusiasm,promote in-depth learning,improve experimental skills,broaden horizons,enhance comprehensive qualities,and provide advantages for future further studies and employment.Surveys indicated that biotechnology interns generally considered themselves to have good quality and skills,being capable of handling their work.At the same time,the instructors at the internship sites express satisfaction with the comprehensive qualities,knowledge qualities,and professional skills of the biotechnology interns.Introducing the"breakthrough"teaching model into the laboratory courses of the biotechnology major not only significantly enhanced students'enthusiasm for learning but also effectively broadened their knowledge,cultivated their innovative thinking and knowledge application abilities,thereby laying a solid foundation for their future internships,work,and postgraduate entrance examinations.
