Research Progress on External Water Investigation Techniques in Municipal Sewer Networks
Excessive infiltration and inflow of external water into the municipal sewage pipeline network can lead to problems such as excessive flow inside the pipes, sewage overflow, and low pollutant concentration at wastewater treatment plants. Locating and quantitatively detecting external water inflow is a prerequisite for the normal operation of sewage pipeline networks. This paper introduced techniques for locating infiltration and inflow points of external water domestically and internationally, methods for assessing the volume of external water, and their respective applications. It also summarized and compared the applicable scenarios and limitations of each technique. The results indicated that various detection technologies usually need to be used in combination, and it's essential to clarify the purpose of detection and select an appropriate combination of techniques. This research can serve as a reference for the scientific application and innovation of techniques for identifying external water infiltration.
