The analysis on growth performance of the improved Hu sheep by crossbreeding with east-friesian sheep
[Objective]The study was conducted to explore the improvement effect of Hu sheep growth performance by crossbreeding with East-Friesian sheep.[Method]Under the same conditions of feeding and management, five experimental groups were selected as follows:East-Friesian Sheep,Hu sheep,F1 lambs crossbred by East-Friesian sheep(♂)and Hu sheep(♀)(F1 lambs),F2 lambs crossbred by East-Friesian sheep(♂)and Hu sheep(♀)(F2 lambs)and transverse cross fixation group.Their body weight and body size from birth to 6-month-old were observed, and the effects of gender, parity, birth rank and ewe age on the growth performance of lambs were determined and the correlations among different growth traits were also analyzed.[Result]For the transverse-cross fixation group and F2 generation, the weights at 3-month-old and at 6-month-old,average daily gain from weaning to the 6-month-old,and chest circumfer-ence at 3-month-old were higher than those of Hu sheep(P<0.05).The average daily gain from birth to 6-month-old was the highest(211.53 g)in the transverse cross fixation group, followed by the F2 generation(206.27 g),and it was the lowest(165.70 g)in Hu sheep. The body height, chest measurement and circum-ference of cannon bone of Hu sheep at 6-month-old were significantly lower than those of the other groups(P<0.05).These results indicated that the East-Friesian sheep had a significant effect on the growth perfor-mance of Hu sheep. The body length, chest measurement and circumference of cannon bone of male lambs at 3-month-old were significantly higher than those of female lambs(P<0.05),and all the body size traits of male lambs at 6-month-old were significantly higher than those of female lambs(P<0.01).The birth weight and weaning weight of the fourth litter were significantly higher than those of the first three litters(P<0.05).The birth weight of the single and twins was significantly greater than that of triplets and quadru-plets.The weight of the 6-month-old lambs from 3-and 4-year-old ewes was significantly higher than that from the first-birth ewes(P<0.05).Parity,birth rank and ewe age had no significant effects on body size of lambs(P>0.05).The results of correlation analysis showed that the body weight and body size of lambs at weaning,3-month-old and 6-month-old were positively correlated.[Conclusion]After crossbreeding be-tween East-Friesian sheep and Hu sheep, the transverse cross fixation group and F2 lambs showed the obvi-ous heterosis.
