Detoxification of boron and silicon on aluminum toxicity of Medicago sativa
[Objective]To study the detoxifying effects of boron(B)and silicon(Si)on aluminum poison-ing in alfalfa(Medicago sativa L.).[Method]The greenhouse hydroponics trial was carried out.Firstly,the optimal concentrations of B and Si were screened,and 7 treatments(CK,Al,B,Si,Al+B,Al+Si,Al+B+Si)were set at the optimal concentrations to determine the growth indicators,root tip citric acid metabolism,and antioxidant indicators of alfalfa.[Result]The addition of boron and silicon could promote the growth of alfalfa without aluminum stress.Under aluminum treatment,the aluminum content in alfalfa root was signifi-cantly increased,while root length,root biomass,stem and leaf cluster height,stem and leaf biomass(clus-ters)and chlorophyll content were significantly decreased,indicating that the growth of alfalfa seedlings was significantly inhibited by aluminum.After the addition of boron and silicon,the accumulation of aluminum in the root was significantly reduced,and the combined effect of boron and silicon showed a better effect.In ad-dition,although boron and silicon increased the activity of apical citric acid synthase,the content and secre-tion of citric acid in the apical tip decreased,so that the alleviation of aluminum toxicity by boron and silicon was not achieved by citric acid secretion.Boron and silicon can also increase the activity of antioxidant en-zymes and reduce the content of MDA and H2O2,thus alleviating aluminum toxicity.[Conclusion]Boron and silicon can promote alfalfa growth and alleviate the aluminum toxicity,and the synergistic effect of the two is better.
