Investigating succession stages of karst rocky desertification vegetation through point-by-point fuzzy discriminant classification
[Objective]This study aimed to investigate the consistency and synchronization between rocky desertification levels and the plant community,as well as the stage of plant succession,in order to es-tablish a quantitative standard for delineating plant succession stages.[Method]Plant communities at vari-ous stages of succession during rocky desertification in the Karst region of northern Guangdong Province were examined. The study employed fuzzy mathematics methods and λ fuzzy-cut analysis to assess the dy-namics of dominant species for categorizing plant succession stages.[Result]The results revealed that the plant community's succession process in the rocky desertification areas of the Karst region in northern Guangdong Province encompassed four distinct succession stages. Each stage was characterized by changes in the dominance of plant species. The dominance of plant species was influenced by the λ value(0≤λ≤1),with plant species composition increasing as the λ value decreased.[Conclusion]With the membership function derived from the significance of dominant species in the succession series as an indicator, and the fuzzy mathematics method and λ fuzzy-cut analysis as a quantitative standard for delineating plant succes-sion stages, this combined approach can effectively identified dominant species throughout the plant succes-sion stages, offering insights into dynamic changes caused by rocky desertification progression and the shift in plant succession stages.
