Breeding Report on the New Early Maturing Maize Variety Yasheng 12
To enrich the variety of maize suitable for high-altitude dry farming areas in Gansu Province, the new early maturing maize variety Yasheng 12 was successfully bred using the inbred lines LKM66 as the female parent and LKF5-1 as the male parent. In the 2021 to 2022 regional trials by the Hexi Consortium's early maturing group in Gansu,Yasheng 12 had an average yield of 11 418.5 kg/ha among 10 pints in 2 a,which was 5.25%higher than that of the control variety Demiya 3.In the 2022 production trials,it averaged a yield of 11 886.0 kg/ha from 5 pints,6.57%higher than the control variety Demiya 3.The variety has a plant height of 260.5 cm,ear height of 90.9 cm,ear length of 19.5 cm,and 14 to 16 rows per ear.The grains are half dent type, with a 100-grain weight of 33.1 g.The grain contains 101.0 g/kg protein,696.7 g/kg crude starch,51.8 g/kg crude fat,2.9 g/kg lysine, and has a test weight of 756 g/L.It features early maturity, large grains, good quality, and stable yield, making it suitable for cultivation in Gansu's early maturing maize production areas.
