Textual research on"Shanglu(商坴)"in Wanwu of bamboo slips of the Western Han dynasty from Fuyang
By referring to ancient and modem medical literature,this paper investigates the name,original plant,origin,harvesting,processing,edible and medicinal use of"Shanglu(商坴)"in Wanwu(《万物》)of Bamboo Slips of the Western Han Dynasty from Fuyang.It is thought that the characters lu(坴)and lu(陆)are similar,lu(陆)was written as lu(坴).In the small seal character,lu(坴)was added a structural part forming lu(陸),and its simplified Chinese characteris lu(陆).Therefore,Shanglu(商坴)is Shanglu(商陆),which has been recorded as a medicine in Shennong Herbal Classic(《神农百草经》)and used until now.The original plant is Phytolacca aci-nosa Roxb or Phytolacca americana L.,whose roots are dried and used as medicine.It was produced in Xianyang,Shaanxi in the Han Dynasty,and in Jiangsu,Zhejiang,Anhui and Shanghai in the Northern and Southern Dynasties.After the Song Dynasty,the production area was further expanded,and it is now distributed throughout the country,and Shaanxi and Shanxi are its authentic production areas.It is often harvested in autumn to the next spring,people take the roots,remove the stem and fibrous roots,wash and cut the roots into pieces,then dry them in the sun or shade.Its processing methods in ancient times include cleaning,cutting,soaking,steaming,boiling,wine processing and so on.Today,vinegar processing is commonly used.Phytolacca acinosa Roxb has been edible since ancient times,and more often used as a medicine.It has the effect of detumescence,defecation and detoxification for exter-nal use.It is suitable for swelling,constipation and external treatment of carbuncle and sore poison.
