Influence of manganese content in hot metal on hearth erosion of blast furnace
The content of manganese in hot metal is one of the factors that affect the blast furnace long campaign. The erosion mechanism of manganese on carbon brick was studied from two aspects of viscosity and activity coefficient. The diagnosis examples of 2 200 m3 and 1 350 m3 blast furnaces in two steel plants were analyzed according to the mechanism. The results showed that the existence of manganese in hot metal would accelerate the erosion of carbon brick in the hearth. The manganese would reduce the viscosity of hot metal and accelerate the disappearance of condensate layer. The manganese would increase the solubility of carbon and promote the erosion of carbon brick. It was recommended to control manganese content at about 0.2 % in blast furnace production.
