Research on sulfur content of austenitic stainless steel
The effect of sulfur content on the properties of austenitic stainless steel was studied by analyzing the sizes and grades of the sulfide inclusions in the casting slab and finished product with different sulfur content. The results showed that the maximum sulfide inclusion size in the casting slab and product was gradually increased with the increase of sulfur content, and so was the inclusion grade of the product. The sulfide inclusion in the product was lower than the minimum requirement of rating when the mass fraction of sulfur was not greater than 21 x 10-6.The impact toughness of austenitic stainless steel was inversely proportional to sulfur content, and when the mass fraction of sulfur was higher than75 × 10-6,it could cause brittle fracture of 304 stainless steel.
