Cause Analysis for Capillary Crack on Surface of 45 Steel Pin Shaft
The caplillary crack on surface of 45 steel pin shaft after machining was analyzed by means of chemical composition analysis, metallographic examination, SEM and energy spectrometer. The results show that the main cause forming the caplillary crack was the inclusion along raw material. The inclusions extend along the rolling direction during rolling and exposed during subsequent machining. The generation of such defects can be reduced by techniques such as protective casting and preventive slag rolling.
