Study on Grain Refinement of 7050 Aluminum Alloy at Different Cooling Rates
The refining mechanism of 7050 alloy was studied at different cooling rates by using V-shaped molds, optical microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, and other methods. The results indicated that as the cooling rate increased from 1.8 ℃/s to 54.3 ℃/s,the grain size of 7050 aluminum alloy decreased from 75.5 μm to 45.6 μm.As the cooling rate increased, the average size of T phases(AlZnMgCu)and S phases(Al2CuMg)in the second phase gardually decreased, the distribution was finer and more dispersed, and these two phases could serve as nucleation points for aluminum grains and promote grain refinement of 7050 alloy.
