Effect of High and Low Temperature Aging Treatment on Properties of 6xxx Series Aluminum Alloy
The effects of aging process on microstructure and properties of the 6xxx series aluminum alloy were investigated by systematic testing, chemical composition analysis, grain structure observation, strength, elongation, hardness, electrical conductivity and intergranular corrosion properties of the samples under different aging regimes. The results showed that with the prolongation of aging time and the increase of aging temperature, the number and size of strengthening phase precipitates inside the alloy matrix in-creased,and the distribution density also correspondingly increased, the hardness and tensile strength of the alloy first increased and then decreased with the increase of time and aging temperature, while the elet-rical conductivity increased with the prolongation of aging time. The 6xxx series aluminum alloy had good intergranular corrosion resistance, but as the aging time increased, the intergranular corrosion resistance gradually deteriorated until reaching the peak aging and then strengthening.
