Epidemiological characteristics of enteric adenovirus in children under 5 years old with diarrhea in Zhengzhou,2011-2022
Objective To investigate the infection status and epidemiological features of enteric adenovirus in children under the age of 5 years old in Zhengzhou,so as to provide evidences for the prevention and control of enteric adenovirus infection. Methods A total of 2 241 stool samples were collected from hospitalized children under the age of 5 years with diarrhea in the sentinel hospitals between 2011 and 2022.All samples were sent to the laboratory in frozen and were used for detection of intestinal adenovirus by PCR.Chi-square test was used for the comparison of qualitative data. Results A total of 183 enteric adenovirus positive samples were detected from 2011 to 2022 and the overall positive rate was 8.17%.There were positive detections every month of the years and the peak seasons were winters and springs. The positive rate of enteric adenovirus in children under one year old was low and the rate was over 10%in other age groups. The differences in positive rates of enteric adenovirus, body temperature in fever and occurrence of vomiting were statistically significant(P<0.05),while the difference in frequency of diarrhea was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusions The positive rate of enteric adenovirus in children under 5 years old with diarrhea showed a trend of increasing in Zhengzhou. The surveillance as well as prevention and control interventions of diarrhea in children caused by enteric adenovirus should be enhanced in further to prevent outbreaks.
