Serum levels of SFRP5 and Kim-1 in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy and association with renal impairment
Objective To analyze the expression of serum secreted frizzled-related protein 5(SFRP5)and kidney injury molecule-1(Kim-1)in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy(DN)and their relationship with renal damage. Methods A total of 107 patients with type 2 diabetes melli-tus(T2DM)admitted to our hospital from March 2020 to March 2021 were selected as the observation group, and divided into T2DM group(41 cases)and DN group(66 cases)according to the urinary protein content. At the same time,90 healthy people who underwent physical examination were select-ed as the control group. The levels of SFRP5 and Kim-1 were detected, and the expression of SFRP5 and Kim-1 in T2DM patients and their correlation with renal damage were analyzed. Results Com-pared with the control group, the levels of blood urea nitrogen(BUN),serum creatinine(Scr),β2-microglobulin(β2-MG),transforming growth factor β1(TGF-β1),type Ⅳ collagen(cⅣ),tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1),and Kim-1 in the observation group were increased, while the levels of serum SFRP5 and estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR)were decreased, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Compared with the T2DM group, the levels of BUN,Scr,β2-MG,TGF-β1,cⅣ,TIMP-1,and Kim-1 in the DN group were higher, while the levels of serum SFRP5 and eGFR were lower, and the differences were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that SFRP5 was negatively correlated with BUN,Scr,β2-MG,TGF-β1,cⅣ,TIMP-1,renal function impairment degree, and renal fibrosis degree(all P<0.05),Kim-1 level was positively correlated with BUN,Scr,β2-MG,TGF-βi,cⅣ,TIMP-1,renal function impairment, and renal fibrosis degree(all P<0.05).Conclusions Serum SFRP5 is abnormally low expressed and Kim-1 is abnormally high expressed in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy,sug-gesting that inflammatory response is involved in the occurrence of type 2 diabetic nephropathy.
