Comparative study of holmium laser enucleation and plasma resection in the treatment of large volume benign prostatic hyperplasia
Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of transurethral holmium laser enu-cleation of prostate(HoLEP)and transurethral bipolar plasma resection of prostate(TUPKP)in the treatment of large volume benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods The clinical data of 76 patients with large volume benign prostatic hyperplasia in urology department of our hospital from January 2020 to December 2021 were reviewed. They were divided into two groups according to different surgical meth-ods,45 cases in HoLEP group and 31 cases in TUPKP group. The perioperative indicators,postopera-tive effects and complications were compared and analyzed comprehensively. Results In the periopera-tive period, compared with TUPKP group,HoLEP group had more prostate resection tissue, shorter post-operative irrigation time, shorter indenture catheterization time and shorter postoperative hospitalization time(all P<0.05).In terms of postoperative effect, the HoLEP group was superior to the TUPKP group in terms of the reduction of the International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS),the improvement of the quality of life score(QOL)and the improvement of the maximum urinary flow rate(Qmax)6 months after surgery, with a statistically significant difference(all P<0.05).There was no significant differ-ence in total complications between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions Both HoLEP and TUPKP are effective methods for the treatment of large volume benign prostatic hyperplasia, but from a compre-hensive comparison,HoLEP has more advantages than TUPKP and is worthy of clinical application.
