Uterine carcinosarcoma with multiple malignant components:A case report
A 53-year-old female patient with uterine carcinosarcoma containing multiple malignant components was admitted to Shenzhen Hospital of Southern Medical University due to"vaginal bleeding with lower abdominal pain for 1 year".Gynecological physical examination and imaging studies indicated masses in the uterine and cervix, cervical tissue biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of malignant cervical tumor. The patient received two rounds of neoadjuvant chemotherapy before undergoing radical surgery for cervical cancer.Postoperative pathological diagnosed uterine carcinosarcoma, histology showed that the tumor contained 5 different malignant components, including 4 malignant epithelial components(endometrioid carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, neuroendocrine carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma)and 1 malignant mesenchymal component(osteosarcoma).Carcinosarcoma is a rare biphasic tumor containing both carcinomatous and sarcomatous elements with a very poor prognosis.Accurate diagnosis mainly relies on histopathology and immunohistochemistry.Surgery is the preferred treatment method, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
