Objective To develop a comprehensive oral health literacy assessment tool for orthodontic patients, and to evaluate its reliability and validity. Methods The Comprehensive Oral Health Literacy Adults Questionnaire for Orthodontic Patients(COHL-OAQ)was developed based on the Oral Health Literacy Adults Questionnaire,Dental Fear Survey and Modified Dental Anxiety Scale.Through patient interviews and meticulous item discussion, research team refined and expanded the scale content via two rounds of expert consultation and polit testing. This process culminated in the creation of the COHL-OAQ.From September to December 2022,a total of 362 orthodontic patients from 11 stomatological hospitals in seven provinces was surveyed to assess the reliability and validity of the scale. Results Five common factors were extracted, cumulative variance contribution rate was 51.293%.The confirmatory factor analysis showed that χ2/df=1.509,RMSEA=0.031,CFI=0.948,TLI=0.939.The final scale consists of 25 items, encompassing fiv dimensions:reading comprehension and knowledge ability,decision-making ability, calculation ability, listening ability, and psychological well-being.Conclusions The COHL-OAQ demonstrates good reliability and validity, making it an appropriate instrument for assessing the comprehensive oral health literacy of orthodontic patients.
