The relationship between illness uncertainty and quality of life in patients with coronary heart disease:the chain mediating effect of coping style and depression
Objective To explore the chain mediating effects of coping style and depression in the relationship between illness uncertainty and quality of life in patients with coronary heart disease. Methods A total of 122 coronary heart disease patients from Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were investigated with Uncertainty in Illness Scale,Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire,Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale,Quality of Life Scale. Results Illness uncertainty was positively correlated with depression(r=0.284,P<0.05),and negatively correlated with coping style, quality of life(r=-0.130,P<0.01;r=-0.144,P<0.05).Mediating analysis revealed that illness uncertainty played positive roles on quality of life.Coping strategies and depression independently mediated the relationship between illness uncertainty and quality of life, and the chain mediating effect of coping strategies-depression was also significant(Bias-Corrected 95%CI did not contain 0).Conclusions Illness Uncertainty not only directly predicts the quality of life in patients with coronary heart disease, but also would be through the indirect path of coping style, depression, and the chain mediating effect of coping styles-depression.
