Analysis of the current status of tobacco control knowledge,attitudes,and practices among public venue staff in Chongqing
Objective To understand the current status of tobacco control knowledge,attitudes,and practices among public venue staff in Chongqing,in order to provide support for improving tobacco control policies and strengthening tobacco con-trol enforcement.Methods From July to September 2022,a stratified random sampling method was used to select 523 pub-lic venue staff from 9 districts and counties in Chongqing as survey respondents.Face-to-face questionnaire surveys were conducted,and the survey data were statistically analyzed.Results Overall,101 public venue staff(19.31％)were aware of the"Regulations of Chongqing Municipality on Smoking Control in Public Places"(hereinafter referred to as the"Regula-tions"),and 481 individuals(91.97％)were aware that their place of work was a smoke-free area.The results of the multi-variate analysis showed that having a history of smoking(OR=2.485)and passive exposure to secondhand smoke for 3-4 days per week(OR=0.345)were influencing factors for the awareness of the"Regulations"among public venue staff(P＜0.05).Having a high school/vocational school/technical school education level(OR=4.900),having a college education level(OR=4.569),a monthly per capita household income of＞3 000-6 000 RMB(OR=0.296),a monthly per capita household income of＞9 000 RMB(OR=0.051),never smoking(OR=0.171),passive exposure to secondhand smoke for 3-4 days per week(OR=3.123),and passive exposure to secondhand smoke for 5-6 days per week(OR=5.858)were influencing factors for the awareness of smoke-free areas among public venue staff(P＜0.05).A total of 375 respondents(71.70％)of the public venue staff supported the"Regulations".The results of the multivariate analysis showed that having a college education level(OR=1.737),a monthly per capita household income of＞3 000-6 000 RMB(OR=3.318),a monthly per capita household income of＞6 000-9 000 RMB(OR=2.225),a monthly per capita household income of＞9 000 RMB(OR=2.903),and never smoking(OR=0.290)were influencing factors for the support rate of the"Regula-tions"among public venue staff(P＜0.05).A total of 129(24.67％)public venue staff reported smoking violations.The results of the multivariate analysis showed that a monthly per capita household income of＞3 000-6 000 RMB(OR=4.275),a monthly per capita household income of＞6 000-9 000 RMB(OR=3.110),and a monthly per capita household income of＞9 000 RMB(OR=2.101)were influencing factors for reporting smoking violations among public venue staff(P＜0.05).Conclusion The overall awareness and support rates of the"Regulations"among public venue staff in Chongqing are low,and there are few reports of smoking violations.It is recommended to strengthen health education and tobacco control publicity among key populations,increase the promotion of the"Regulations,"enhance tobacco control en-forcement,improve the supervision and reporting mechanism for tobacco control complaints,and fully leverage the strong role of public venue staff in tobacco control.
