Evaluation of the effectiveness of AIDS knowledge intervention among college students in a university in Guangxi
Objective This paper aims to understand the level of AIDS knowledge, attitudes towards AIDS,and related be-haviors among college students at a university in Guangxi,in order to provide a basis for effective AIDS prevention and con-trol work among them. Methods All undergraduates enrolled in the elective course"Sexual Psychology and Sexual Health"at a university in Guangxi from 2021 to 2022 were selected as the research participants.AIDS health education was conduc-ted for one semester, and the same questionnaire was used for the survey before and after the course. The survey data were statistically analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of AIDS knowledge intervention. Results The average awareness rate of basic AIDS knowledge among students increased from 73.1%before intervention to 85.1%after intervention(P<0.05).After intervention, the proportion of students who believed that occasional unprotected sexual behavior would not lead to hu-man immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection decreased from 48.6%before intervention to 12.6%after intervention(P<0.05);the proportion of students who treated HIV-infected individuals/AIDS patients the same as normal people increased from 28.6%before intervention to 40.8%after intervention(P<0.05);the proportion of students who would actively seek testing if engaged in high-risk behaviors that may lead to HIV infection increased from 84.8%before intervention to 97.3%after intervention(P<0.05).After intervention, the proportion of students who knew how to correctly use condoms in-creased from 65.5%before intervention to 83.5%(P<0.05).Conclusion After the intervention, college students in this university had increased awareness of the risks of HIV/AIDS,improved attitudes towards HIV-infected individuals/AIDS patients, and enhanced coping skills.AIDS health education has a marked effect on improving AIDS prevention and control knowledge among college students. In future AIDS health education,it is necessary to strengthen students'awareness of the risks of HIV/AIDS,as well as education on correct condom use, early HIV testing, and post-exposure prophylaxis.
