Efficacy comparison of SPLPEC and traditional open surgery in treating pediatric inguinal hernia
Objective To compare the efficacy of single-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (SPLPEC) with traditional open surgery in treating pediatric inguinal hernia, providing clinical references. Methods A retrospective a-nalysis was conducted on 127 pediatric patients with inguinal hernia treated at the Department of Pediatric Surgery of our hospital from January 2021 to December 2022.Patients were assigned to two groups based on the surgical method:open group (n=38) and laparoscopic group (n=89).The laparoscopic group underwent SPLPEC,while the open group received traditional open surgery. The groups were compared based on the time of operation, length of hospital stay, intraoperative blood loss, wound length, and postoperative complications. Results The laparoscopic group had significantly shorter time of operation and length of hospital stay, less intraoperative blood loss, and shorter wound length compared to the open group (P<0.05).The complication rate in the laparoscopic group was also significantly lower than in the open group (P<0.05).Con-clusionSPLPEC is a safe and effective surgical method for treating pediatric inguinal hernia, with advantages inclucling shor-ter time of operation, faster recovery, fewer complications, and less intraoperative blood loss compared to traditional open surgery, justifying a wider clinical application.
