Application of nurse-guided empowerment education combined with WeChat public platform in outpatient care for patients with allergic rhinitis
Objective To explore the effect of nurse-guided empowerment education combined with the WeChat public plat-form on the care of outpatient patients with allergic rhinitis (AR),providing evidence for nursing interventions for outpa-tient AR patients. Methods A total of 98 AR patients treated at Jiangsu Province Hospital outpatient clinic from January 2022 to March 2023 were selected and randomly assigned to a control group and a study group, with 49 patients in each group. The control group received conventional nursing interventions, while the study group received nurse-guided empow-erment education combined with the WeChat public platform for three months.Indicators such as treatment compliance,Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS) scores,Exercise of Self-Care Agency (ESCA) scale scores, improvement of rhi-nitis symptoms, and Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ) scores were compared between the two groups. Results The treatment compliance rate after intervention in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group[93.88% (46/49) vs.79.59% (39/49);x2=4.346,P=0.037].Before intervention,no significant differences were observed in the MUIS subscale scores for complexity, unpredictability, uncertainty, and information deficit between the two groups (P>0.05).After intervention, the MUIS scores in all four dimensions were lower in both groups than before intervention, with the study group scoring significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05).Before inter-vention,no significant differences were found in the ESCA subscale scores for health knowledge level,self-management skills, sense of self-management responsibility, and self-concept between the two groups (P>0.05).After intervention, the ESCA scores in all four dimensions were higher in both groups than before intervention, with the study group scoring significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05).The study group had significantly lower scores for sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, nasal itching, and nasal mucosa swelling symptoms compared to the control group after intervention (P<0.05).The study group also had significantly lower RQLQ scores for daily activities, nasal symptoms, eye symp-toms,other symptoms, sleep problems, behavioral problems, and emotional responses compared to the control group after intervention (P<0.05).Conclusion Nurse-guided empowerment education combined with the WeChat public platform signifi-cantly improves nursing outcomes for outpatient patients with AR,effectively enhancing treatment compliance, reducing disease un-certainty outside the hospital, and increasing self-care ability, thereby promoting clinical symptoms and quality of life.
