Application of nutritional intervention based on the nutritional risk assessment in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with dysphagia
Objective To explore the impact of targeted nutritional intervention based on the Nutritional Risk Screening 2002(NRS2002)assessment on the nutritional status and quality of life of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with dysphagia dur-ing radiochemotherapy. Methods A total of 200 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with dysphagia admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to December 2022 were selected as the research participants. They were randomly assigned to a control group(100 cases)and an observation group(100 cases)using the random number table method. The control group received routine intervention, while the observation group received targeted nutritional intervention based on the NRS2002 assess-ment.After intervention, the nutritional status of the patients was evaluated using the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment(PG-SGA)scale;the levels of serum albumin, hemoglobin, and white blood cells were detected, and the quali-ty of life of the patients was assessed using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General(FACT-G)scale and compared before and after intervention. Results After intervention, statistically significant differences were noted in the nu-tritional status levels between the two groups, and the nutritional status of the patients in the observation group was better than that in the control group(P<0.05).Before intervention,no statistically significant difference was found in the levels of albumin, hemoglobin, and white blood cells between the two groups(P>0.05).The levels of albumin, hemoglobin, and white blood cells in both groups were significantly increased after intervention, and the observation group was signifi-cantly higher than the control group(P<0.05).Before intervention,no statistically significant difference was found in the FACT-G scores for physical condition,social/family condition, emotional condition, and functional condition between the two groups(P>0.05).The FACT-G scores for physical condition,social/family condition, emotional condition, and func-tional condition in both groups were significantly increased after the intervention, and the observation group was significantly higher than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Compared with routine intervention, targeted nutritional intervention based on the NRS2002 assessment is more effective, markedly improves the nutritional status and nutritional indicators of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with dysphagia, and is conducive to raising the quality of life of patients, justifying a wi-der clinical promotion.
