Effects of auricular point pressing with seeds combined with acupoint application on pain and constipation in patients underwent modified radical mastectomy
Objective To investigate the effects of auricular point pressing with seeds combined with acupoint application on pain and constipation in patients who underwent modified radical mastectomy(MRM),providing clinical treatment refer-ences.Methods One hundred MRM patients treated at Haian People's Hospital from September 2021 to September 2023 were selected and randomly assigned to a control group and a study group, with 50 patients in each. The control group re-ceived conventional treatment, while the study group additionally received auricular point pressing with seeds combined with acupoint application. The difference in upper arm circumference,Disabilities of the Arm,Shoulder, and Hand(DASH)scores,Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)scores, serotonin levels, prostaglandin E2 levels,Wexner constipation scores,Bristol stool classification,Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide(VIP)levels,Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)scores, and compli-cations during treatment were compared between the two groups. Results Before treatment, there were no significant differences in upper arm circumference difference and DASH scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment, both indices were significantly lower in both groups, with the study group showing greater reductions(P<0.05).Before treatment,no significant differences were found in VAS scores, serotonin, and prostaglandin E2 levels(P>0.05).After treatment, these indices were significantly reduced in both groups, with greater reductions in the study group(P<0.05).Before treatment,no significant difference was observed in the Wexner constipation score,Bristol classification score, and VIP level between the 2 groups(P>0.05).After treatment, the Wexner constipation scores of the two groups were signifi-cantly decreased, and Bristol classification scores and VIP levels were significantly increased, with the Wexner constipation scores indicating greater reductions and Bristol classification scores and VIP levels demonstrating greater rise in the study group(P<0.05).Before treatment,no significant difference was found in PSQI scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment, the PSQI scores of patients in the two groups were significantly decreased, with the study group demonstrating greater decline(P<0.05).The incidence rate of complications in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Auricular point pressing with seeds combined with acupoint applica-tion effectively reduces upper arm circumference differences, improves upper limb function, relieves pain, and alleviates con-stipation and sleep quality issues in MRM patients, with fewer complications, making it worthy of clinical promotion.
