Current status and influencing factors of multiple injuries among children and adolescents in Chongqing,China
Objective To understand the current status and influencing factors of multiple injuries among children and adoles-cents in Chongqing,China, and to provide recommendations for the prevention and control of multiple injuries in this popu-lation.Methods In 2019,a stratified random cluster sampling method was used to select students from grades 4 to 12 for a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire included demographic characteristics, parents'age, parents'education level,par-ents'health status, parents'relationships, educational methods, and injury-related behaviors.Statistical analysis was con-ducted using SPSS 25.0.In addition, the x2 test was used to compare the incidence of multiple injuries among different pop-ulations,and multifactorial logistic regression analysis was used to identify influencing factors of multiple injury occurrence. Results A total of 14 056 students were surveyed, including 6 954 males(49.47%)and 7 102 females(50.53%).Among them,4 939(35.14%)were from elementary school,4 360(31.02%)from middle school, and 4 757(33.84%)from high school.Among the surveyed children and adolescents,750 had experienced an injury in the past 6 months, with an injury in-cidence rate of 5.34%,and 246 had experienced two or more injuries, resulting in a multiple injury incidence rate of 1.75%.Multifactorial logistic regression analysis indicated that being from an ethnic minority(OR=3.006,95%CI:2.315-3.903),mother's average health status(OR=1.542,95%CI:1.169-2.033)and having chronic diseases(OR=1.951,95%CI:1.240-3.068),swimming in places without safety measures six or more times in the past 12 months(OR=2.657,95%CI:1.537-4.592),engaging in physical fights with others(one time:OR=1.789,95%CI:1.204-2.658;two or more times:OR=1.602,95%CI:1.121-2.290),and having thought about running away from home(OR=1.823,95%CI:1.335-2.487)or attempted to run away from home(OR=3.042,95%CI:1.886-4.906)in the past 12 months are influencing factors of multiple injury occurrence. Conclusion The incidence rate of multiple injuries among chil-dren and adolescents in Chongqing remains low.Maternal health status and unsafe behaviors are influencing factors of multi-ple injury incidence rates. Therefore, interventions should be targeted at these factors.
