Discrimination on Synonymous Bodily Verbs of Dai Language in Xishuangbanna
The synonym relation is a semantic relation that is prevalent in the lexical systems of the world's languages.And the study of synonyms is an important part of the linguistic vocabulary study.The number of synonyms is quite large in the vocabulary sys-tem of the Dai language in Xishuangbanna.Among them,as the first and most cognizable bodily verbs for human beings,this lexical cluster also has a considerable number of synonyms.Analyzing several groups of common synonymous bodily verbs of the Dai language in Xishuangbanna by applying the semantic theory,the author finds that the semantic differentiation of these synonymous bodily verbs is mainly reflected in four aspects:the difference in the size of the scope of the subject of the action,the difference in the object on which the action is performed,the difference in the tools and means used,and the difference in the strength of the action.The rea-sons for the formation of synonyms in Dai language in Xishuangbanna are both internal linguistic and external social factors.
