A Corpus-based Study on the Differences between Chinese English Learners' and English Natives' Acquisition of Adjective Patterns
English adjectives are one of the most important parts of speech in English, and studying their patterns will be of great help to second language learners in English learning.Based on the data of CLEC,and using LOCNESS as a reference, the pres-ent study discusses the Chinese English learners'acquisition of three adjective patterns. The results indicate that the two groups show great differences in the structure of"adjective+infinitive"pattern and"adjective+preposition"pattern, mainly reflected in the lexical width of former collocation adjectives; In"adjective+that clause"pattern, the difference between the two groups is not significant. The present study inspires us to pay attention to the explanation of lexical collocation in the process of English teaching, and to help students learn English well by mastering lexical collocation.
