Kinship Terms of the Water-dwelling Communities in Wuzhou
Kinship terms are an important carrier reflecting social relationships and family concepts,and they are an essential part of language.The language of the water-dwelling communities in Wuzhou belongs to the Guangdong dialect of Cantonese,and their unique living environment endows them with distinctive linguistic characteristics.The present study analyzes the word formation of kin-ship terms among the water-dwelling communities in Wuzhou,their characteristics,meaning changes,and the similarities and differ-ences with the common Mandarin Chinese.It reveals the unique linguistic phenomena and cultural connotations contained in the kin-ship terms of the water-dwelling communities in Wuzhou,which is of great significance for a deep understanding of their culture and the protection of their linguistic resources.
