Adsorption studies of wax gourd peel biochar for hexavalent chromium in water
This study was to explore the adsorption effect of wax gourd peel biochar on hexavalent chromium in water,in order to realize waste resource recovery, and provide technical support for the application of wax gourd peel biochar in the remediation of metal polluted wastewater. The biochar was prepared using wax gourd peel as raw material under the condition of oxygen isolation, then it was used to adsorb hexavalent chromium in water.Effects of quantity of biochar, initial concentration of hexavalent chromium,pH,adsorption time and temperature on the removal rate and adsorption quantity of hexavalent chromium were investigated. The results showed that wax gourd peel biochar had great removal capacity to hexavalent chromium, and the removal rate of hexavalent chromium was up to 100%.The adsorption process was consistent with the second order kinetic equation, and the isothermal adsorption process fits well with the Langmuir equation.Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic.
