Study on the correlation between the mineralogical property indexes of bentonite and performance indexes
In order to establish a correlation model between the mineralogy indexes and performance indexed of bentonite, test data on these indexes from various regions in China were collected and organized.Subsequently,SPSS software was employed for conducting correlation analysis and cluster analysis. The results demonstrated significant correlations among the four mineralogy indexes, namely sodium ion exchange capacity ENa+,alkalinity coefficient,pH,and base spacing d001.These factors were found to be the primary determinants influencing five performance indexes:swelling capacity, swelling value, water absorption rate, thermal wet tensile strength, and colloid index. The three mineralogical performance indexes, namely layer charge, methylene blue index, and cation exchange capacity, exhibited a robust correlation with wet compressive strength.Substituting the methylene blue index data of five bentonite samples from Guangxi into the stepwise regression model for wet compressive strength yielded a coincidence rate exceeding 80%,indicating that measuring methylene blue index can provide improved prediction of wet compressive strength.
