In view that the Pinglu Canal project produced extensive earthwork excavation, resulting in numerous and widely distributed landfills, which posed significant safety hazards to the surrounding environment, this paper conducted a landslide risk assessment of landfills at the Pinglu Canal.By comprehensively considering various factors that could cause failure in landfills,a systematic landslide risk classification method was established. This method categorized landslide susceptibility and vulnerability of disaster-bearing body into four levels:extremely high, high, medium, and low.A preliminary risk assessment was conducted for 141 landfills at the Pinglu Canal. The assessment results showed that the landslide risk levels of most landfills were low or medium, with a few higher-risk landfills concentrated in Lingshan County.Overall, the placement of landfills was generally reasonable. For landfills with higher risk levels identified in the preliminary risk assessment, this paper proposed a quantitative landslide risk assessment technique based on multi-source information from space, sky, and ground. This technique aimed to re-evaluate risks and accurately identify landslide safety hazards, ultimately better serving the construction of the Pinglu Canal.
