Soil Fertility Quality Evaluation and Limiting Factor Diagnosis of Eucalypt Plantations in Southern Guangxi
In order to provide theoretical basis for management of eucalypt plantations, based on 15 soil chemi-cal property indexes, minimum data set were established by principal component analysis.Integrated fertility in-dexes were calculated.Soil qualities of Eucalyptus urophylla plantations with four different generations and five stands ages were evaluated.Limiting factor diagnosis model was used to screen soil limiting factors. Results showed that soil pH in eucalypt plantations were acidic.Contents of soil organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, total potassium, hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium, available calci-um,available magnesium, available iron, available manganese, available copper, available zinc and available boron varied greatly with changes of generations and stand ages of eucalypt plantations, and soil pH varied lit-tle.Soil pH and contents of organic matter, total nitrogen, hydrolyzable nitrogen, available phosphorus,avail-able magnesium and available boron could be used as minimum data set indexes to reflect soil fertility quality of eucalypt plantations.Proportions of very good, good, moderate, poor and very poor soil fertility qualities in eu-calypt plantations with different generations and stand ages were 0%,5%,80%,15%and 0%respectively.Con-tents of organic matter, total nitrogen, total potassium, available iron and available boron were main limiting fac-tors for soil fertility qualities of eucalypt plantations in southern Guangxi. It was suggested to pay attention to ap-plication of organic and inorganic compound fertilizers as well as supplement of trace elements such as iron and boron.Appropriate management strategies according to different generations and stand ages should be imple-mented.
