Madame Curie is one of the most frequently appearing female scientists in Republican women's periodicals,and an examination of the issue of the evolution of her images contributes to an understanding of the deeper motivations behind the shaping of the scientist's images.Since the Republic of China,the social,political and ideological spheres had undergone several upheavals,and people's pursuit of modernization has gradually moved deeper and deeper.Female emancipation thought,which is characterized by modernity and originated at the end of the Qing Dynasty,has also been marked by the social and historical changes of the times.The images of Madame Curie portrayed in Republican women's periodicals centered on different aspects such as the impact of family on career,the value of professional independence on gender independence,and the impact of war on women's participation in society.In short,the evolution of Madame Curie's images provides a typical case of observation for the study of the interaction between women's emancipation ideology and social participation in China during the Republican period.
