[Objective]The purpose of this study was to explore and compare the effects of Lactobacillus plantarum GX17 and commercial compound probiotics as feed additives on growth performance and intestinal barrier function of yellow-feathered broilers.[Methods]One hundred and twenty-five 1-day-old chicks were randomly divided into three groups:Lactobacillus plantarum(group LP),commercial compound probiotics(group S)and control group(group C).Lactobacillus plantarum GX17 and commercial compound probiotics were added to the drinking water of 1.5×109CFU/chicks in group LP and group S,respectively, while those in group C were fed with normal drinking water for 42 days. The growth parameters, immunological indexes,duodenum/jejunum morphology and jejunum related barrier genes were measured during the whole or different periods of the experiment.[Results]During the whole experimental period, supplementation of Lactobacillus plantarum GX17 and commercial compound probiotics could significantly reduce the feed-to-weight ratio of broilers, improve the humoral immune function of broilers, further enhance the immune effect of Newcastle disease vaccine, significantly increase the ratio of villus length to crypt depth, and enhance the ability of intestinal absorption of nutrients. In addition,Lactobacillus plantarum GX17 significantly up-regulated the mRNA expression of CLDN,MUC2 and TLR2,and commercial compound probiotics could significantly up-regulate the expression of CLDN,Occludin,MUC2,TLR2 and TLR4,which could promote tight junction and enhance intestinal barrier function.[Conclusion]Compared with commercial compound probiotics,Lactobacillus plantarum GX17 has the same positive effect on growth performance and intestinal barrier function of yellow-feathered broilers, which can be used as feed additive in yellow-feathered broilers.
