Research Progress on Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Technology for Composting in the Context of"Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality"
Aerobic composting is considered a promising technology for recycling and increasing the value of organic solid waste. However, there are potential environmental pollution problems in the aerobic composting process, such as greenhouse gas emissions, which will not only aggravate global warming, but also cause nutrients loss of mature compost and agricultural value reduction.Meanwhile,it is not conducive to achieving China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals on schedule. This paper reviews the latest research results on greenhouse gas emission reduction in the aerobic composting process of organic solid waste at home and abroad, summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of relevant research technologies for greenhouse gas emission reduction in the aerobic composting process, and discusses the contribution of mature compost application to greenhouse gas emission reduction in agricultural and forestry production practices, with a view to providing basic theoretical support for China's due contributions to achieving the"dual carbon"goals as scheduled in the field of composting research. In general,it is a promising composting technology to control the generation of greenhouse gases in the process of aerobic composting from the source by using functional microbial agents. It can not only open up new paths for the sustainable development of agriculture and forestry, but also help China achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality as soon as possible in the field of composting research.
