Objective To understand the knowledge of HIV(human immunodeficiency virus,HIV),syphilis infection,and HIV prevention and treatment among the elderly population in Yulin,with the aim of exploring the relevant influencing factors,and to provide a scientific basis for controlling the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS(acquired immunodeficiency syndrome,AIDS)and syphilis among the elderly.Methods This study was conducted in Yulin between May 2022 and September 2022,and the cluster random sampling method was employed to select several administrative villages or communities in 2 townships.Questionnaire surveys were conducted on residents who met the inclusion criteria,and their blood samples were collected for HIV antibody and syphilis serology testing.Chi-square test and multi-factor logistic regression model were used to analyze the influencing factors of the HIV and syphilis positivity rates,and the awareness rate of AIDS prevention and treatment among the elderly.Results A total of 2 400 subjects were enrolled in this study.The overall awareness rate of AIDS prevention and treatment was 74.83％,and the overall positive rates of HIV and syphilis were 0.21％and 2.96％,respectively.Multivariable logistic regression showed that education level of middle school and above(aOR=1.857,P＜0.001)and annual income ≥5 000 RMB(aOR=1.608,P＜0.001)were protective factors for acquiring knowledge about AIDS prevention and treatment.Not being married(aOR=0.508,P＜0.001),not working currently(aOR=0.641,P＜0.001),and never going out to work(aOR=0.594,P=0.002)were risk factors for acquiring knowledge about AIDS prevention and treatment.Not being married(aOR=20.707,P=0.023)and had commercial sexual activity(aOR=83.425,P＜0.001)were risk factors for HIV positivity.Male(aOR=3.505,P=0.005)and had commercial sexual activity(aOR=756.299,P＜0.001)were risk factors for syphilis positivity.Conclusions The awareness rate of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment among the elderly population in Yulin is relatively low,and high-risk behaviors still exist.It is recommended that in the future,targeted publicity and education be carried out based on relevant risk factors and the social and cultural background of the publicity target,and comprehensive prevention and treatment measures for sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS and syphilis should be improved.
