Analysis of the willingness and influencing factors of parents of first-grade students in a certain district of Shenzhen to receive emergency vaccination against varicella
Objective To investigate the willingness of parents of first-grade students in three primary schools affected by the epidemic to vaccinate against varicella and analyze the influencing factors,so as to provide reference for prevention and control of varicella epidemic in the first grade of primary school and the formulation of emergency vaccination strategies for varicella vaccine. Methods Parents of first-grader students from three primary schools in the same school district and affected by the varicella epidemic to different degrees in Bao'an district,Shenzhen city were selected as research subjects, and an online questionnaire survey was conducted. The basic situation of students and parents, parents'willingness to receive emergency vaccination against varicella, etc.were investigated. The constituent ratio(%)was used to characterize the fundamental state and willingness to receive emergency varicella vaccination of the subjects. The influencing factors of emergency varicella vaccination willingness were examined using a binary multivariate logistic regression model. Results A total of 585 valid questionnaires were collected,of which 93.5%(547/585)of the respondents were willing to receive varicella vaccine. The greater the impact of the epidemic on parents, the lower their scores on the questions of"possibility of infection among classmates","vaccine protection time","acceptance of mild adverse reactions",and"vaccine prevention effect".The results of multivariate analysis showed that the degree of impact of the epidemic(OR=2.330,95%CI:1.461-3.718),the acceptance of mild adverse reactions of parents(OR=1.954,95%CI:1.381-2.766),vaccine quality awareness(OR=1.616,95%CI:1.002-2.607),and whether the child had a history of varicella(OR=0.292,95%CI:0.120-0.711)were related to the willingness of receiving emergency varicella vaccination. Conclusions The willingness of parents of first-grade students in the 3 primary schools to receive emergency varicella vaccination is generally acceptable, but their knowledge of the harmfulness and infectiousness of varicella and the safety and effectiveness of varicella vaccine is insufficient. It is recommended that in the future, when varicella epidemics occur, knowledge on vaccine safety, effectiveness and quality should be popularized to increase the emergency vaccination rate.
