Research on Antenatal Examination Appointment Scheduling with Multi-process in Special Need Clinic
Patients at a special need clinic of obstetrics department usually wait a long time for their antenatal examinations. To improve this situation,a heuristic strategy for appointment scheduling considering multiple types of patients was proposed.Patients may undergo a variety of tests, such as ultrasounds, anomaly scans, and fetal heart monitoring.Additionally, depending on their contracted doctor and gestational week, different consultation processes were formed.Given the complexity of the problem, the job shop scheduling problem and the appointment scheduling problem were combined to formulate a mathematical planning model with the objective of reducing patient waiting times.A genetic algorithm was developed for patients with multiple processes. Then,a heuristic appointment scheduling strategy taking into account multiple types of patients was suggested based on numerical experiments. The heuristic was further compared with traditional appointment scheduling strategy by means of simulation, which resulted in a 78.26%reduction in average patient waiting time.
