Architectural Forms and Culture Connotations of the Teaching Room for Nourishing Vital Spirits in the Garden of the Palace of Tranquil Longevity in the Forbidden City
Taking the Buddhist building-the Teaching Room for Nourishing Vital Spirits in the Garden of the Palace of Tranquil Longevity in the Forbidden City as a research object,combining investigation on cur-rent situations with studying of historic archival documents,the historic background,architectural charac-teristics and culture connotations were fully discussed.The discussion focused on the architectural layout,structural design and indoor space organization.Simultaneously,to reveal the unique symbolic meaning,the comparisons between the Teaching Room and other Buddhist buildings in the Forbidden City were con-ducted.Furthermore,the distinctive floor plan and roof shape and specificity of decoration with hanging lo-tus columns of the Teaching Room and the historic and cultural causes behind them were discussed.
