Study on the Variation of Snow Cover Over the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau During 2001-2022 Based on Remote Sensing
In this paper, satellite remote sensing methods for monitoring snow cover and various snow cover in-version products are reviewed, and the spatial and temporal variation characteristics of snow cover over the Qing-hai-Tibet Plateau(QTP)using different methods and products are summarized.Additionally, the spatial and tem-poral characteristics of snow cover over the QTP are analyzed using MODIS snow cover products from 2001 to 2022.The results show that there is no significant change in the average value of snow cover on the plateau over the 22 years, with a value of 27.37%.The spatial distribution of snow cover on this plateau is highly uneven, showing more snow accumulation in the surrounding mountainous areas compared to the interior, with more snow present on the sides than in the central region. The results also show that snow cover variations in the eastern part of the plateau are the most significant and dominate the interannual variability of snow cover across the en-tire plateau. In terms of seasonal variation of snow cover on the plateau, most areas on the plateau exhibit an in-creasing trend in snow cover during winter, while autumn and summer generally show decreasing trends.Addi-tionally,it was found that precipitation and temperature are important factors affecting snow cover, with precipita-tion having a more pronounced impact.Long-term snow cover monitoring products based on remote sensing tech-nology can provide valuable input parameters for climate change studies, model forecasting, and prediction ef-forts related to the QTP and its affected areas, thereby enhancing the accuracy of forecasts and predictions.
