Xinhua Daily was a party newspaper publicly published and distributed by the Communist Party of China(CPC)in the Nationalist region,representing the CPC's mouthpiece.Every year when September 18th was to come,the newspaper would publish a large number of articles to mark this incident for the reason that firstly the September 18th Incident held an important position in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Invasion,and secondly this was its own historical positioning and reporting needs.Considering the output of the discourse,it was linked to the pre-mobilization of the preparation for the commemorative ceremony,the subjective emotions of the text-writing group,and the selection of the materials.However,the construction of the discourse of the"Northeast War of Resistance"included not only the universal elements of condemnation of Japanese atrocities and the concern for the Northeast,but also the intertwining of multiple discourses such as"war of resistance"and"unity",with its rhetoric on"carrying the war to the end"and"re-storing all lost territories".The political function of Xinhua Daily's discourse construction centered on the September 18th commemoration reports was to clarify the strategic position of the Northeast in the War of Resistance,to strengthen the CPC's political identity,to unite all sectors of society in the War of Resistance,and to preserve the historical memo-ry of the Chinese nation,which was a manifestation of the CPC's political demand to focus on the Northeast in the con-text of the evolution of geopolitical and political party relations.
