Functional Analysis of Eucommia ulmoides Calmodulin EuCML5 Gene
This study constructed a plant expression vector pSH737-35S-EuCML5,and transferred the target gene into the model plant tobacco to obtain transgenic plants. The transgenic EuCML5 gene, empty vector, and wild-type tobacco plants were subjected to four abiotic stress treatments simultaneously, including low temperature(4 ℃),high temperature(42 ℃),drought, and high salt,in order to observe the phenotypic changes of tobacco plants. The results showed that under four types of abiotic stress treatments, the survival rates of EuCML5 transgenic tobacco were higher than that of wild-type and empty vector tobacco, and the leaf curling rate of EuCML5 transgenic tobacco was lower than that of wild-type and empty vector tobacco.Overexpression of EuCML5 can enhance tobacco's tolerance to low temperature(4 ℃),high temperature(42 ℃),drought, and high salt, which will lay the foundation for further understanding the molecular mechanisms of plant stress tolerance and utilizing this gene for crop stress improvement.
