Comparative Study on the Therapeutic Effect of Two kinds of Moxibustion in Treating Mild and Moderate Knee Osteoarthritis
Objective:To investigate the clinical efficacy differences between heat-sensitive point thunderfire moxibustion and pure thunder-fire moxibustion in treating mild and moderate knee osteoarthritis (KOA).Methods:Sixty KOA patients were randomly divided into a treatment and acontrol group evenly. The treatment group received heat-sensitive point thunder-fire moxibustion and the control group received pure thunder-fire moxibustion. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score were observed in the two groups after two weeks and four weeks treatment respectively. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups. Methods:Two weeks after treatment, there were statistically significant pre-/post-treatmem differences in the VAS score and WOMAC subscores in the two groups (P < 0.01);there was statistically significant post-treatment difference in the VAS score between the treatment and control groups (P < 0.05);there were extremely statistically significant post-treatment differences in the WOMAC pain and body function scores and the WOMAC score between the treatment and the control group (P < 0.01).Four weeks after treatment, compared with the results got two weeks before, there were statistically significant differences in the WOMAC stiffness score in the two groups ((P <0.05),there were extremely statistically significant differences in the WOMAC pain and body function scores and the WOMAC score in the two groups((P < 0.01);there were statistically significant differences in the WOMAC body function score and the WOMAC score between the treatment and the control group (P < 0.05).The total efficacy rates at the end of treatment were 96.67% and 93.33% in the treatment group and the control group, there was statistically significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.01);the total efficacy rates got three months after treatment were 96.55% and 96.30% in the treatment group and the control group, there was statistically significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05).Conclusion:The clinical efficacy of heat-sensitive point thunder-fire moxibustion is better than that of pure thunder-fire moxibustion in short term treatment of knee osteoarthritis, and the efficacy of heat-sensitive point thunder-fire moxibustion is stable.
