A review of researches on the impact of corporate ESG ratings
Environmental ratings,represented by environmental,social and governance(ESG)rat-ings,have received more and more recognition and attention in recent years in China as a manage-ment tool.This essay explores the practical role and impact of environmental rating on improving an institution's environmental performance.The positive impacts of environmental rating on the environ-mental performance of public and private institutions are demonstrated from four aspects:revenue in-centives,measurability,execution,and spillover effects.At the same time,it is believed that envi-ronmental ratings contribution to environmental performance is still substantial,affected by factors such as scale preference,blurred indicators,and weak consistency.Environmental rating could play a unique role in improving the corporate environmental governance and internationalization,promo-ting social supervision and market competition.It is suggested that authoritative institutions should es-tablish a standardized and localized corporate environmental rating system,promote the organic com-bination of environmental rating and environmental supervision,and large companies pay attention to the role of rating to promote sustainable development.
