Research on the Structure Model of Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Zone Maritime Transportation Network
The Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Zone is an essential window for in-depth cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.Researching the maritime transportation network structure in this region is of great significance for revealing the fundamental laws of shipping development between China and ASEAN and improve the competitiveness of the port group in South China.Based on the AIS data of container ships, this paper studies the container shipping network structure of the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Zone by constructing an open-flow network model. Moreover, the node flow control influence evaluation method is used to identify the critical ports of the network. The study found that the maritime transportation network of the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Zone has an obvious Matthew effect and presents a loose structure. There is a significant difference between a hub port's influence on the network and its throughput. The port group in South China should establish a cross-regional coordination mechanism under the new normal of high-quality development to promote the"diversification"of port business toward regional"base-based"development.Gradually form a South China port group with complementary advantages, reasonable division of labor, cooperation, and orderly competition.
