Mercapto-modified AgNWs for Enhancing the Conductivity of AgNWs/PVA/Borax Hydrogels
Silver nanowires(AgNWs)are widely used in flexible electronic devices due to their excellent conductivity, bendability and large aspect ratio. However, the high contact resistance between silver nanowires and the poor dispersion in the matrix can greatly reduce their conductive network ground conductivity. In this paper,AgNWs with an average length of 79.44 µm and an average diameter of 102.29 nm were successfully synthesized by the polyol method, and then the surface of AgNWs was modified with modifiers containing-SH and-OH by taking advantage of the strong coordination between S and Ag to study their dispersion in hydrogels and their contribution to the conductivity of hydrogels. The results showed that the modification of AgNWs by thioglycerol(MPD)modifier was the most effective. When the volume ratio of ethanol dispersion of MPD(5 mM)to ethanol dispersion of AgNWs(2 mg/mL)was 1:1,the modifier was relatively uniformly distributed on the surface of AgNWs,and there was no large agglomeration. The modified AgNWs were added to the polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)/borax hydrogel, and the hydrogel conductivity was 0.858 S/m when the addition amount was 0.04%,which was a 94%increase in conductivity compared with that of the PVA/borax hydrogel with unmodified AgNWs.
