Pathogenesis of Vitiligo and Progress of its TCM Treatment
Vitiligo is a common skin disease with dyschromatosis,which is characterized by different shaped and sized depigmented spots with clear boundaries.The pathogenesis of this disease is still unclear.Modern medicine believes that the occurrence of this disease is the result of the interaction of heredity,autoimmunity,melanocyte self-destruction and oxidative stress.While the traditional Chinese medicine believes that the occur-rence of vitiligo is closely related to visceral dysfunction,external contraction,and six climactic pathogens.At present,western medicine mostly uses oral or topical drugs,phototherapy and surgery to treat this disease,with obvious short-term curative effect,but it is easy to repeat and has many adverse reactions.While treating with traditional Chinese medicine,the general principles are nourishing liver and kidney,expelling wind and damp-ness,soothing liver qi and removing blood stasis.A large number of classic famous prescriptions have been de-veloped by doctors in the past dynasties,and are still in use today,and their curative effect has been recognized by doctors and patients.In this paper,the pathogenesis of vitiligo and the relevant research progress of tradition-al Chinese medicine treatment in recent years were briefly reviewed,in order to provide reference for the follow-up research on vitiligo treatment with traditional Chinese medicine.
