Clinical Study on the Treatment of Depression with Moxibustion at Acupoint Dazhui(GV14)and Conventional Acupuncture
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of treating depression with moxibustion at acupoint Dazhui(GV 14)accompanied with conventional acupuncture. Methods A total of 62 patients with depression were divided into two groups:a therapy group and a control group,by using Random Number Table method. The control group was given conventional acupuncture, while the therapy group was given moxibustion at acu-point Dazhui(GV 14)additionally at the same time. All of the treatment was given three times a week for 8 weeks. The overall effectiveness rate,Hamilton depression scale(HAMD)and Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)before the treatment,4 weeks and 8 weeks after the treatment between the two groups were compared. Results The overall efficacy rate of the therapy group and the control group were 93.3%and 89.6%.There was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).The HAMD scores and total PSQI scores of the two groups decreased after 4 weeks'and 8 weeks'treatments(P<0.05).After 4 weeks'and 8 weeks'of treatments, the HAMD scores of the therapy group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).After 8 weeks, the PSQI scores of the therapy group were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).There were no adverse reactions and adverse events during the treatment period in both groups. Conclusion Moxibustion at acupoint Dazhui(GV 14)accompanied with conventional acupuncture can improve patients'symptoms of depression and the sleep quality, which is safe and reliable.
