Acceptance of"Tour of Fairy Caves"in Japan's Trans-border Myths
The Tang Dynasty's legendary novel"Tour of Fairy Caves",which discon-tinued its presence in China for many years, has had a profound impact on Japanese literature, particularly the trans-border myths of Japan in the lit-erature of the Yamato Era.A comparative analysis between"Tour of Fairy Caves"and Japanese trans-border myths in terms of theme, myth structure and plot, and even words and sentences at the micro-level indicates that the trans-border myths of such Japanese myth classics as"Ko Ji Ki"(Re-cords of Ancient Events),"Nihon Shoki"(Records of Japanese Events)and"Fudoki"(Records of Ancient Japanese Kingdoms)were much affect-ed by"Tour of Fairy Caves",describing the same myth group. This finding means that we can date the Japan-bound spreading of"Tour of Fairy Ca-ves"back to at least the establishment of"Ko Ji Ki",that is,712 A.D.
