"King Yalu"and"Biography of Zanwang"from the Perspective of Ritual Epics
Many living epics are evolved from rituals, and epics can be divided into ritual epics and non-ritual epics according to performance contexts."King Yalu"and"Biography of Zanwang"are two ritual epics prevalent in the western Miao dialect regions.According to the main contents of texts collect-ed and sorted out, they are intertextual or variations of an epic.If the per-formance contexts, that is,the burial ritual and the sacrifice drum ritual, are included for comparative reference, the two epics'text structures will be torn apart, and many diverse contents will be added. In terms of complete burial ritual verse and sacrifice drum ritual verse they can hardly be seen as two identical epics.
